James D. Beckman, a native of Philadelphia, received his bachelor's degree in 1975 and his master's degree in 1977, both in metallurgy, from Penn State University. In addition, he holds an MBA from Chapman University. Since 1977, he has been employed by Crucible Specialty Metals located in Syracuse New York where he has held various positions in mill metallurgy and production. In 1994 he was promoted to vice president of sales and marketing, in 1997 to vice president of operations, and in 1998 to executive vice president. He moved to his present position as president of Crucible Specialty Metal in 2001, and is also corporate vice president of the parent company, Crucible Materials Corporation.
He was selected as a Centennial Fellow of Penn State University's College of Earth & Mineral Sciences in 1996, and in 2001, he received the McFarland Award for excellence in achievement in material science.
He serves on the Board of Directors of MACNY, as Chairman; The Syracuse Opera, as President; and the Advisory Board for Material Science & Engineering at Penn State University.
